My Aim

Growing Mindsets aims to improve children’s emotional health and well-being through developing a positive and resilient mindset. This will enable children to face life’s challenges with confidence.

Everyone wants a happy child. However, in this ever-changing world children are faced with a number of challenges. The emotional pressure they feel can come from many areas in life: school, family relationships, social media, friendships, bereavements – to name but a few. Trying to cope with such issues can have a detrimental effect on a child’s well-being, bringing on feelings of anxiety, stress, low self-esteem and emotional imbalance. At Growing Mindsets I provide a safe, professional and caring environment to help a child face the challenges they are experiencing. I work with them to develop strategies in which they can grow and learn to support themselves. This enables them to become emotionally stronger. By providing each child with a bespoke set of skills, they are better equipped to thrive as they journey through life.

‘Feelings are something you have; not something you are.’ – Shannon L. Alder

Sadly, according to the Mental Health Organisation UK:

  • 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year.
  • 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24.
  • 10% of children and young people (aged 5-16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental problem, yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age. (2017)

When children are feeling stressed, anxious or worried, many find it difficult to express or recognise how they are feeling. As a result, manifestations can occur in their behaviour. Some of the behavioural symptoms may include:

  • Withdrawal from activities at home or at school
  • Constantly worrying or having negative thoughts
  • Clinging to parents
  • Aggressive behaviour
  • Sudden outbursts of emotions
  • Inability to concentrate
  • Not sleeping
  • Complaints of feeling unwell

Growing Mindsets can help to coach children through these.
