Hello, my name is Tracy Newman and I am an Emotional Health Coach for children.
I trained at Exeter University to become a Primary School Teacher in 1997 and taught in West Sussex until 2021. In addition to teaching, I volunteered to be a School Governor in my children’s primary and secondary school, plus was the co-chair of the PTA for many years. I have always been passionate about working hard to enhance children’s educational experiences. Over the years, I have seen first-hand the impact emotional challenges can have on children, so during COVID, completed a number of courses focussing on how to support children emotionally. When my school reopened after COVID, I volunteered to work alongside the children who were showing signs of anxiety returning to school. This role grew and developed alongside my list of qualifications, skills, experience and (sadly) ever growing list of children who needed emotional support. In 2021, I stopped teaching and trained to become an E.L.S.A (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) in the school in which I taught. As their E.L.S.A I supported over two hundred children with their emotional health until I left in 2024. At that time, I decided to develop Growing Mindsets as my independent business. Because I strive to support children to the best of my ability in my work, I have continued my own learning journey, educating myself further in CBT and counselling skills. It is very important to me to provide the most appropriate support I can for the children I see.
I am a mother of three grown-up children, (two girls, one boy) so have lived through each stage of their development, facing both ups and downs with them and their friends. I know how emotional challenges can affect a teenagers well-being, having a direct impact on their relationships, academic progress and sense of self-worth. Seeing any child struggle emotionally, is heart-wrenching – even more so when the child is your own. I understand your child is your most precious treasure, so will work hard to identify your child’s needs in order to individualise the right care and provision. I aim to provide your child with the skills they need to progress in the area in which they need the most support. There might not be an immediate ‘fix’ to the problem, but the work I provide will help the child to process what they are facing, plus focus on solutions and strategies which they can use. Ultimately, this will give them the skills to become happier and stronger as they journey into adulthood.
